New season
My blog is about American football but since the American football season is over, I’m going to talk about a little about the upcoming baseball season. The regular season was started at Tokyo when the powerful defending world champions the Boston Red Sox, which had an amazing 2007 season faced the Oakland Athletics, which did poorly on the last season by not even getting close to the play-offs, but doing real well in the spring training having finished second in the American league. The series ended with a tie with Boston having won in extra innings the first game and the Oakland A’s having totally beat the Boston 5 to 1. The big surprise was Brandon Moss who was in Boston’s minor league team, and in the first game of season scored a homerun. The other star that shined for Boston was the 2004 MVP winner, Manny Ramirez who made an amazing hit in the last inning that pushed two runs into home so that the Red Sox could go into extra innings and win the game. In the second game Manny Ramirez made a tremendous solo home run in the 4th inning, but was’nt enough to win the game. The Oakland team had also an incredible player named Emil Brown which made an incredible three-run homerun which determined the victory of Oakland A’s in the second game. The next game of the regular season is the opening game for the national league which is the Atlanta Braves against the Washington Nationals. After having finished third behind the powerfull Mets and the strong Phillies and not even getting close to the Wild Card, the Braves are trying to change and to win the National east division. The key player for the Atlanta Braves would be Tom Glavine which came back after being with the New York Mets for five seasons. Tom Glavine knows what to do, but the question is, would he be able to do it. Also there are many expectations in the bullpen especially with the participation of Rafael Soriano which has everything a pitcher needs, but the experience a coach would have want. As always they rely on there two veterans which is the pitcher John Smoltz and Chipper Jones, but would that be enough to face the great and renewed Nationals? The answer is maybe, since the Nationals had focused on offense by bringing strong batters. After not having the best season of all, and after finishing in bad position at the division and in the Wild Card they hope, that with the new players, they have a better season. They brought in the Mets catcher Paul Lo Duca, that with the experience he has, he could boost the National’s spirit. Paul Lo Duca also shows great leadership which will help the Nationals in though times. Another great batter is the prospect from the Mets Lastings Milledge, which is a center fielder which would many responsability specially offensively. He wants to make a difference at the Nationals, as he said in an interview at spring training ” I got to get the job done and ah, you know they have high expectations on me, which I have high expectations for my self so um, you know I’m, I’m going to do everything I can do to get the job done and to ah, and to be ah, you know everything they, they want me to be.” They always will be counting on there experienced veterans like Dmitri Young and Aaron Boone which was brought from the Cleveland Indians. I will bring you more information about the beginning of the MLB regular season and also some other things about American football, like the transactions happening, in my upcoming blog. I hope you enjoyed this blog, and got well informed about the opening games in the MLB and please, comment on it because I will love to hear some opinions from you.
